Excellent follow up to the Juth's book on Compression.I got side tracked by this book and its mention of the Harrison 32C EQ and it's sweet sound at 4 kHz. After a little investigation I ended up buying the Harrison Mixbus 32C DAW since I don't have access to the hardware console or its UA? emulation. So I spent the last two weeks learning this incredible sounding DAW and just getting back to finish reading this EQ book. (I had never heard of Mixbus 32C 3 weeks ago. I highly recommend checking out the demo of Mixbus 32C.)Check out Juth's video on youtube entitled "The Art of Equalization" also.At the end of the video he mentions "Register with MasteringTown.com and receive a Free Mastering session with Thomas Juth." After registering you can view the different mastering options. I want to wait until my mixing advance beyond novice level and then I'll definitely give his mastering a try.Back to the EQ book: he mentions decision making at different frequency ranges as dichotomies, i.e. either or, which is really helpful in decision making and also training my ears to problems and what the trade offs are in attenuating or exposing by addition EQ or else a lo Q substractive EQ applied elsewhere. I'm trying to devise a similar sequence of dichotomies for approaching compression decision making to add to the knowledge I gleaned from his book the Art of Compression. Perhaps another book on trade offs between EQ and compression and their ordering in the processing list would be well received also!Just purchased Juth's "The Art of Creating Depth in a Mix". Hope to start reading that tonight.I think I read somewhere he's working on another book about pursuing a career in mixing. Looking forward to that even though I'm only a weekend hobbyist, music isn't my day job.I hope Juth writes about preparing a mix for mastering. I'm just learning about the K-metering system and trying to understand Mixbus 32C analysis report and was trying to understand the issues of loudness from the articles at digitdo.com which I could only comprehend about 25% of because they were very technical.Thanks again to the author for writing these excellent books. In the last 4 weeks I've advanced more than in the last 4 years trying different online training videos, etc. The lights on starting to come on. :)
I've been excited about this book's release ever since I read Juth's first book about the art of compression. I've always tried to capture the best audio possible at the source, but when things don't seem to fit together like a puzzle I generally start questioning my EQ choices. This book is a quick read and really insightful for understanding proper and creative ways of using EQ, which was definitely a confidence booster for me. This book is a must read for anyone serious about engineering and wanting to get more confidence in their EQ choices. Juth has awesome insights on both EQ and compression, and I'm grateful he felt the desire to share his years of wisdom with the world, because it's helped me out a bunch.
